Commissioning Service

Corrimal Uniting Church,
Russell St Corrimal March 7th at 2pm

Q: Where do all of our unreached youth cross paths?

A: Our local high schools.

Q: Who is there for them from our churches?

A: The `Schools Ministry’ staff & volunteers

For most of our youth, they will never go to sunday school,
a service or even a church youth group.
SRE teachers are teaching the Christian faith on the
front line of our schools.
The door is still open for this......but for how long?
Show your support & encourage the SRE teams!
You are invited to the annual commissioning of our High School
Ministry team of staff & volunteers at Corrimal Uniting Church,
Sunday March 7th 2pm.
We celebrate that all 3 state high schools of the northern
Illawarra are now covered with staff.

An SRE teacher for
Corrimal High

The Board decided in Dec to
step forward in faith & employ an
SRE teacher at Corrimal High
for 1 day per week in 2010. This
decision followed consultation
between the Principal of the
school, the Chairman of the
Board, John, with Gillian Davis;
& consultation also with
churches in the Corrimal area.

Following interviews, the Board
is pleased to announce the
appointment of Phuong
Barraclough to this position.
Phuong has been the SRE
teacher at Smith’s Hill High for
the last 3 years. With the birth of
Caitlin in June 2009, she has
decided to drop back to 1 day.

Phuong brings experience &
enthusiasm to the position.
Phuong is a trained teacher, with
a B.Ed in Physical & Health Ed.
from Wollongong Uni. Her family
came from Vietnam when
Phuong was young & her family
was Buddhist, but in her early
20’s Phuong came to Christ. Phuong & herhusband,
Oran, attend Central Church,Wollongong.

Corrimal High Report

Being a proud Berkeley girl myself I know from
experience what it feels like when the odds are against you,
but it is up to our Lord to inspire, encourage, &
exemplify grace, love & forgiveness that will have our young,
& young at heart, embrace the gospel.
As my team of volunteers from all different
denominations, & myself work to teach SRE & display a
united front at Corrimal High this year, we will use our
hands & feet to be Jesus-like in the school.

So it is with great honour & privilege we have this
opportunity to share the gift we have with others.
It is sharing it with whole classes, every period,
of every Friday, for the whole year.
Praise God for his provision!! I ask you to pray for
the battle we are about to enter. For this mission
field is not for the feint of heart, but for those mighty of spirit.
Yours in SRE,
Phuong

Bulli High Report

I am looking forward to teaching
years 9 and 10 in classes this year
for the first time. In the past we had 2
x 1 hour seminars for the whole year
so it is an exciting improvement for
them and for us!

The year 11, 12 seminars are always
our favourite as the students have
such good questions and are open to
continuing discussion with me in a
lunchtime format.
The same faithful group meet at our
lunchtime group for the rest of the
student body. They are keen to
change venues and advertise the
group more, which shows increasing
leadership and ownership of this
group.

Overall we continue to grow in
influence and favour as we hold out
Jesus as our source of wisdom, life
and salvation.

In Him,
Gillian

Woonona High Report

We went back to school this week.
It’s been great. The new year 7's are
already asking great questions and
the staff all have said hello and
welcome back. Going to the
swimming carnival next week and
really looking forward to serving
there. Also I’m helping a yr 12
student with her extension English
project as she is examining different
representations of Jesus and i was
asked to work with her over the yr on
that. I’m really excited to be asked
and see a huge opportunity there as
she isn’t a Christian.

Thanks for your back to school
prayers and for blessing the
Woonona high team with so much
support.

Jill

Chairman’s Letter

Welcome to another exciting
year for the Northern Illawarra!

Please pray for our new teacher
at Corrimal High, Phuong
Barraclough. Pray for her as she
recruits & encourages a team of
volunteers to work with her.

Don't forget to also pray for Gill
at Bulli High and Jill at Woonona
High.

We are still looking for a
treasurer for this year - so if you
can assist or know someone
who can please let me know as I
am fulfilling that role as well as
Chairman at the
moment. In Him,

John

Finance Report

This year we need over $6,500 per

month. January has started well -
thanks to those who have given
already but we need to receive
donations each month to pay
salaries, super, insurance etc.
For how to give see the BWCB
website - this now provides an
additional way of giving via a
secure credit card facility utilising
the Genr8 website.
