Chairman's Letter by John Armour
2011 has started out as a great year for SRE in the Northern Illawarra. We are thankful to our 3 teachers for their dedication to faithfully teach their classes week after week, with vigor and determination. We are also extremely indebted to God for providing the volunteers who so ably assist the teacher's week in week out. Sadly for us Jill will be leaving at the end of term 3. But the good news is that Jill and Dave will be having their first baby later in the year. We wish them all the best for this exciting time in their lives.
Please pray for the Board members the teachers and the Volunteers as we spread God's word in the High Schools to those who have not heard it in depth before.
In Him
John

News from our Schools
BULLI HIGH - GILLIAN DAVIS
It has been wonderful to teach material that helps engage our students, & our faithful long-term volunteers mean a growing consistency & trust in the classroom. We are still short of 2 teachers, which mean some days we have to combine 2 classes into one. This is pretty stressful! Please pray for more helpers.
We have opened up Thurs lunchtime for a senior students discussion group. We have had a few students come, with really important questions, & wanting to seek God & understand more of faith. It has been wonderful to have a Christian senior student make this happen on the ground.
I have spent the last 2 weeks helping year 12 classes understand a HSC poem that draws on a biblical text. It has been a great time talking through a text but also all the questions that followed about many things concerning God! Our lunchtime group is small, great with each other but not growing. Please pray for a strong student leader/advocate to lead this group - they make all the difference.
We continue to experience support and favour in the school.
In Him, Gillian
WOONOONA HIGH - JILL BRODIE
Term 2 has had its ups and downs. The majority of classes ask great questions but there are a few classes who make teaching beyond difficult. Year 7 has been looking at big ideas about God and his character such as Mercy, Grace, Forgiveness and Faith.
Year 8 has been learning about Suffering and Where is God with some many things going wrong in the world? Year 9 has been talking about the Resurrection and why is it important and year 10 has looked at Sex, Drugs, Dating, Marriage and Love, What does God say about it all?
Pray for the kids who are aggressive 3and very difficult to have in the room. Pray God will open up their hearts and change them. Pray i will show love and not give up on the tough classes.

CORRIMAL HIGH - MARK MIDDLETON
Scripture has gone well this term with a number of very receptive classes. We are concluding our series on Christianity in the real world & have started working through some well-known parables looking at the character of Jesus. At the end of last term I was invited to participate in an end of term activities day for Yr 7. This provided me with some great opportunities to mix with Yr 7 in an informal manner & get to know the students. Part of the time was spent exploring the appropriate way to behave towards each other. This was done in small groups with a range of activities & I was given a group to facilitate & a Yr 11 'helper' to work with. I have been asked if I would like to help our with another Yr 7 day at the end of Term 2 & am looking forward to the opportunities this will provide. The Friday lunchtime group is still very small so your continued prayers for this would be appreciated along with your continual prayerful support of the day-to-day lessons.

Prayer Points
* Gill has announced her intention to retire at the end of this year with the idea to have a younger person take on the role. Her announcement follows Jill's at the last Board meeting, when she announced that she was leaving Woonona at the end of Sept, to prepare for the arrival of their first child in November. Please pray! The Board will be looking at different options - two part-time teachers, or one full time.
* We are planning a Supporters Dinner at the end of third term - probably 23rd or 24 th September. We will take the opportunity to thank Jill and Gill for their pioneering work in their respective schools.
* Chaplains in schools. The Federal government will continue to fund the program. Our SRE teachers have already approached their Principals to discuss applying for funds for a chaplain. There is to be a meeting on Thursday, 30th June, at Woonona Baptist, 477 Prince's Hwy 4.00pm to discuss chaplaincy, to which all interested parties are invited.
* Finances This year so far we have been given enough to meet our needs this included several big donations from supporting churches. In the 2nd half of the year we are more dependent of the giving of members; pray our finances in.
